we believe in restoring self reliance, dignity, and moral charity, one neighbor at a time. Based in Manteno, Illinois, our dual entity nonprofit offers a bold alternative to government welfare through community driven support, traditional values, and face-to-face aid.
We don’t outsource charity. We live it.

In the early days of the American railroad, when men wandered the countryside in search of work, shelter, and dignity, a hidden language emerged. .. the hobo code. Scrawled in chalk, coal, or carved with a dull knife, these marks told a quiet story for those who knew how to read them.
Among them was the Circle with an Cross a simple symbol etched into fence posts or back doors. It meant one thing: “Safe place.”
Here, a traveler might find food. A man down on his luck might be treated with humanity. It marked a home where judgment was suspended, and charity held sway. A signal from one soul to another that there was refuge on the other side of the door. At Dekens Community Store, we revive that sacred American sign. Carved again into wood, stamped into our seal, and worn proudly as our emblem, it stands not for profit, but for providence. We carry on that quiet promise from a forgotten era, that those in need will not be turned away, and that dignity is never a luxury to be earned, but a right to be upheld.
Just as the old wanderer followed the rails in hope, so too do we extend a hand, not through government decree, but through neighborly resolve. The circle binds us; the cross marks the place.
This is a safe place. This is Dekens.
